One for the DVD rental queue

Remember uplifting & charming movies?

They had an inspirational core, while avoiding becoming too sappy. They offered the usual movie eye and ear candy, but topped all that with enrichment for the mind and heart. Sometimes they were a bit smaltzy, but usually in a good (or at least harmless) way: the characters might be expected to do a few song and dance numbers.

They were enjoyable and enriching to sit through. The Sound of Music could be the gold standard for such U&C movies.

I nominate Lagaan to the pantheon of U&C movies.

Bonus for watching: you will learn the fundamentals of Cricket… and find the match utterly engrossing.

Would like to know what you think of it, anne.

I think lots of recently made 'charming' movies are available (chocolat, big fish, millions, etc etc). Maybe it's the uplifting aspect that is tough to pull off. Maybe billy bathgate works as u&c. It must be difficult treading the fine line between uplifting and preachy.
