SF peace rally
I'm sure today's march had the biggest turnout yet. I haven't heard an estimate though - have to crank up the TV news soon. It definitely did attract a wide assortment of people. It could have been a church picnic - a really huge church picnic. Demographically, very family oriented. I'm guessing the sunday date and balmy weather
helped see to that.
I'm also really pleased to report that, this time, the vast majority of participants focused on the one issue - no war. I saw only one corner where Mumia was getting any flyer action. The legalize pot folks were seen hanging around the port-o-sans. At least they provided some handy reading material.
Although the vast majority were plain and lovely folks, yes, those crazy ninjas were spotted way at the back of the crowd. And their numbers do look to be increasing. They say splinter factions were trying to bring it to the police. Silly ninjas. It's a peace rally. If you have to totally flip out, do it as part of the Chinese New Year Parade celebrations, over a few blocks. But take note fashion mavens: wearing a bandana, bandito style across your face, is the new headband.
Here's a few pictures. If you look reeeeallllly hard at the faces in the pic with the road-straddling banner, you might be able to pick out Bonnie Raitt, Danny Glover and Joan Baez.
Also a few websites, from some second tier groups of interest:
Peace Pins (they have nice looking badges).
Buddhist Peace Fellowship.
End The War.
Democracy Means You.
Bush On Crack.
