More post Series wrap up
Yeah, I know, let it go...soon...
The 'controversy' building around Darren Baker is a classic example of why Baseball Inc just doesn't get it. On the one hand, Bud Selig bemoans the continuing erosion in baseball's popularity. The kids ain't into it. On the other, he now wants to clamp down on the number of ball boys in the dugout. Give me a break, Bud! Even the most hardcore Angels fan had to acknowledge that the Giants dugout was styling. The kids brought something real and almost forgotten back to the Series. The Game as a game, not as corporate endeavor.
Over-protective parents were probably freaking out a bit when Darren made his surprise appearance at home plate. But, that's what over-protective types live for anyway. The fact is - no one got hurt. It certainly is something that shouldn't be taken lightly, for sure. But humans learn from mistakes - we make enough of them to advance the species more rapidly than any other creature. To put the clamp down on kids in the dugout is a brutish, crotchety, reaction. It is also counterproductive to the practical best interests of MLB; that being, getting kids more excited about the game. If they see peers, they relate. Duh. The gender barrier, ball girls, will surely also be broken soon enough, if Selig The Grouch doesn't have his way.
J.T. Snow's 'save' was one of the truly elevating efforts on the field of play. We Are Family - 2002 remix.
(PS: SF's loss may be Chicago's gain - rumors run rampant that Darren and Dusty are moving to the Sox).
