Darwin's sniper
My pet theory that reality tv and infotainment aggressively fuel inhumane & uncivilized behavior, is getting a serious workout in DC.
If you look at this with from an evolutionary perspective, it's clear personalities drawn to doing such things ultimately stand out from the pack. But does this provide them with a higher probability to procreate and propagate the species? And what about us? The train-wreck voyeurs? Why are we watching? If we didn't, there wouldn't be the ratings and all this crap wouldn't be broadcast. Maybe then the sociopath's sick-circuit wouldn't trigger so readily.
No one can prove humans are above natural selections' evolutionary influences. We might say because most people aren't psychos, that path is clearly not a route to the species success. But many, perhaps all of us, are drawn like moths to the flame, when we see something as horrible as this sniper. Why? What would Darwin say?
